Paris Photo Showcase
On Sunday March 2, 2008 I judged the Paris Tennessee Photo Showcase. It was an awesome photography display, showing both talent and merit in many of the photographs. I'd like to personally give my sincere congratulations to all that entered, and those that won awards. I'm always regretful after judging any event as this because there are so many winners and never enough awards. This show was one of the hardest ones I've done in my career.
I did make a few recommendations to the Arts Council concerning the categories of entry. I feel that next year there will be a better grouping of similar images for judging.
I will give anyone who entered the Showcase a "free portfolio review and crituque"; just call or email me for your appointment.

I was asked to post this list by many of the participants for reference so here it is.
Composition / Execution / Content / Impact / Presentation and Title
Composition-
Aesthetics / considered in terms of how pleasing it is. Does the composition
effectively work considering the subject matter and cropping?
Execution -
Exposure / Proper lighting / Proper tools of implementation
Content -
Does the viewer see and feel your message immediately
Impact -
Success in using all elements to force the viewer to see the content
Do the composition, execution, and content visually move out to seize the attention
and eyes of the viewer?
Presentation/Title
Does presentation enhance the viewing experience and melt together with the
art as one, and does it create the display platform that encapsulates your image
and projects it to a viewer, along with forming a void that diminishes the distractions
around the image.
Title - Does it add the overall radiance emanating from your image? Avoid esoteric,
obscure, and confusing titles, unless it’s part of the rationale of your
image.
If this list helps anyone do better photographs then "mission accomplished".
Thanks again for having me, it was a pleasure and honor to judge such great event.
